Scene 1: At home [Oobi is in the living room with his toy car. He's singing to himself.]
Oobi: [singing] Kako's house dinner! Kako's house dinner! Kako's house dinner! Kako's house dinner![Oobi notices the viewers.]
Oobi: Ka-- oh. Hi! Tonight, Oobi, Kako's house. Dinner. Soon.[Oobi starts singing again.]
Oobi: Kako's house dinner! Ka-- hmm?[Suddenly, Grampu calls from off screen.]
Grampu: [off screen] Oobi![Grampu walks up to Oobi.]
Grampu: Kako's house. Dinner.Oobi: Kako's house dinner, now! Bye, car.[Oobi and Grampu leave the house.]
Oobi: Kako's house dinner! Kako's house dinner!Oobi and Grampu: Kako's house dinner! Kako's house dinner! Kako's house dinner!Scene 2: Arriving at Kako's house [Oobi and Grampu walk up to Kako's house. The sounds of maracas can be heard in the background.]
Oobi: [laughing] Hmm, sounds different.Grampu: Yeah, sounds new. New good.[Oobi knocks on Kako's door. Kako answers it.]
[Oobi and Kako do their secret handshake.]
Oobi and Kako: Whoo! [laughing][Kako's dad, Papu , walks up to the door.]
Papu: Beautiful. Oh, greetings, Grampu.Grampu: Hi, Papu. Oh, evening lovely, hmm?Grampu: [a bit embarrassed] Oh, yes, well. Bye-bye.[Grampu walks away. He calls to Oobi from off screen.]
Grampu: [off screen] Oobi have fun!Scene 3: Kako's living room [Oobi and Kako walk into the living room. Papu follows them.]
Oobi and Kako: [laughing]Kako: Ooh, here. Living room.Oobi: Oh. Hey. Hmm. House nice.Papu: Thank you. Ooh, Papu make dinner. Oobi, Kako play.Kako: So, Oobi, game. Umm. Oh, leap frog. Or--oh, tag.[Kako imitates thumb wrestling.]
[Oobi motions toward a wall of photos in Kako's living room.]
Kako: Oh, yeah. Pictures.[Kako walks up to a photo of himself smiling. He smiles and poses to match the photo.]
[Kako crawls on top of Oobi and shows him another photo. It shows him with his parents, Papu and Mamu .]
Kako: Oh. Um... Kako again. Mamu, Papu.[Kako shows another photo. This one's a photo of Great-Grandmamu .]
Kako: Oh. Great-Grandmamu.[Kako dashes off screen to show Oobi something else: a basket. Oobi follows him.]
Kako: Family trip. Alaska.Kako: Drum. Family trip. Kenya, Africa.Oobi: Ooh, Kenya, Africa.[Kako plays a beat on the drum.]
Oobi: [laughs] Oobi like drum.[Kako shows Oobi a maraca.]
Kako: Maraca. Family trip. Mexico.Oobi and Kako: [laughing][Kako shakes the maraca to the "Shave and a Haircut" tune. Oobi recognizes the sound from earlier, when he first arrived at Kako's house.]
Oobi: [gasps] Sounds! Oobi heard maraca.[Kako keeps shaking the maraca.]
[Kako decides to give the maraca to Oobi.]
[Oobi puts the maraca down. He doesn't want to try it.]
Oobi: [sighs] Maraca new.Oobi: [hesitantly] Oobi try.[Oobi shakes the maraca, but he's not very good.]
Kako: [lying] Uh, Oobi good. Oobi good.[Kako demonstrates how to play "Shave and a Haircut" on the maraca.]
[Oobi tries again. This time, he starts to get the rhythm.]
[Oobi tries a few more times, getting closer to the right rhythm.]
Kako: Uh-huh! [imitating a maraca] Chk, chk, chk-chk, chk. Chk, chk! Chk, chk, chk-chk, chk. Chk, chk! Yeah![Kako notices the viewers.]
Kako: [to the viewers] Hmm. Hey! Oobi, Kako maraca sound. Chk, chk, chk-chk, chk. Chk, chk! You maraca sound.Kako: Ready? You. Maraca sound![Oobi shakes the maraca again. Kako and the off-screen voices sing along.]
Kako and Voices: Chk, chk, chk-chk, chk. Chk, chk! Chk, chk, chk-chk, chk. Chk, chk! Yeah!Kako: You, Oobi maraca sound. Perfecto. Mwah!Oobi and Kako: [laughing]Oobi: Hmm. Maraca. Oobi like.Kako: Yeah. Kako like too.[Oobi notices a painted rock on Kako's table.]
Oobi: Oh. Rock, family trip?Oobi and Kako: [laughing][Papu calls the boys from off screen.]
Papu: [off screen] Kako, Oobi! Dinner!Scene 4: Dinnertime [Oobi and Kako run into the dining room, where Papu's prepared some food for everyone.]
Oobi: [laughing] Ooh. [sniffs] Oh, smells good.[Papu shows Oobi the different foods he made.]
Oobi: Ooh, fish. Oobi like fish.Oobi: Oh, rice! Oobi like rice too.[Everyone starts to eat.]
Oobi, Kako, and Papu: [munching][Papu notices that Oobi isn't touching his okra.]
Kako: Oh. Okra good. Try.[Papu brings out a full piece of okra.]
[Oobi takes a few bites of the okra.]
Oobi: Oh. Okra different. Okra good! Oobi like okra.Kako: [whispering] Secret.Oobi and Kako: [laughing][Oobi, Kako, and Papu keep eating.]
Oobi, Kako, and Papu: [munching]Scene 5: Interview [An interview segment starts. Uma is interviewing a girl named Nicole, who's wearing a sari.]
[Uma looks at Nicole's sari.]
Uma: Fancy clothes! Um, dress?Nicole: It's called a sari. It's from India.Uma: Sari. India. Ooh, put on how?[Nicole explains how to put on the sari.]
Nicole: Well, you have to tie over here. Pull up the skirt. Take this, put it around.Uma: Ooh, fancy. Uma fancy too. See?[Uma holds up her barrette.]
Uma: Nicole fancy. Uma fancy. Fancy together!Scene 6: A new dance [Oobi and Kako are back in the living room, playing leap frog.]
[Kako leaps over Oobi.]
Oobi and Kako: [laughing][Oobi leaps over Kako.]
Kako: [laughing] Leap frog, together?[Oobi and Kako leap at the same time and knock into each other.]
Oobi and Kako: [laughing][Oobi and Kako hear some music playing.]
[Papu dances over to Oobi and Kako.]
[Kako starts to dance along.]
[Oobi watches Kako and Papu.]
Oobi: Huh. Dance good. Dance new.[Oobi has trouble copying Kako and Papu's dance moves.]
Oobi: [giving up] Uh, dance hard.Kako: Yeah. Oobi, music. Listen. Feel. Move.[Oobi listens to the beat and moves along with it.]
Kako: [laughs] Yeah, Oobi!Oobi: [laughing] Dance Oobi's! Huh![Oobi stops dancing to talk to the viewers.]
Oobi: [to the viewers] Hey! Oobi, Kako, Papu dance. You dance.Kako: Yeah. Ready? You , dance!Oobi and Kako: [laughing][Oobi and Kako do their secret handshake again.]
Oobi and Kako: [laughing] Whoo! [laughing]Scene 7: Back at home [Some time later, Oobi comes back home, holding a paper bag. Grampu opens the door to let him inside.]
Kako: [off screen] Bye, Oobi!Papu: [off screen] Bye-bye, Oobi.Oobi: Bye, Kako. Bye, Papu. Thank you! [laughing]Oobi: Oh, Grampu! Kako's house, new food, new music, new dance.Grampu: Oh, Oobi like Kako's house?Oobi: Oobi love Kako's house.Oobi and Grampu: [laughing]Oobi: Kako's house neato!Grampu: Eh, lovely. Grampu glad.Oobi and Grampu: [laughing][Grampu notices Oobi's paper bag.]
Oobi: Oh, gift for Grampu.[Oobi reaches into the bag and takes out a piece of okra.]
Oobi: [singing] Kako's house dinner. Kako's house maracas. Kako's house okra. Ha![Oobi notices the viewers.]
Oobi: Kako, Oobi, friends. Oobi, you, friends. Bye!Oobi and Voices: [laughing]
