Scene 1: How to play tee-ball [Out in the yard, Oobi and Kako are running and wearing tee-ball helmets.] Oobi and Kako: Batter up! Batter up! Batter up! Batter up! Oobi: [to the viewers] Oh, hi. Oobi, Kako today... tee-ball. Kako: Yeah, tee-ball. Batter up! Oobi: Batter up! [turns to the viewers again] Oh, hey. Oobi, Kako "batter up." You "batter up." You, "batter up!" Kako: Yeah, you "batter up!" Oobi, Kako, and Voices: [all] Batter up! Batter up! Batter up! Grampu: [off-screen] Oobi, Kako! [Oobi and Kako walk over to Grampu. He is setting up a plastic tee while Uma puts a tee-ball on it.] Kako: Hey. Oobi: Grampu! Kako: Tee-ball ready? Grampu: Tee... Kako: Ooh. Grampu: [points to the ball] Ball. Kako: Aah. Grampu: Tee-ball ready. Oobi and Kako: Yay! Grampu: Oh. Tee-ball bat. Kako: Mm. Grampu: Heh-heh-heh. Enjoy! Kako: Thank you. Uma: Bye. [Grampu walks off.] Oobi: Oobi hit. Kako: Kako hit. Uma: Hmm. Uma catch! [Uma runs over to the other side of the yard. She gets ready to catch the ball after Oobi and Kako hit it.] Oobi: Oh, ha-ha. Kako: Oobi, batter up? Oobi: Oobi batter up. [Oobi swings the bat and sends the ball flying across the yard.] Kako: Wow. Oobi good. [Uma is picking flowers on the other side.] Oobi: [off-screen] Uma, ball! Uma: Oh, oh, oh! [She drops the ball, then picks it up and brings it back to the tee.] Uma: [mumbling] Uma catch. Almost. Oobi: Ha-ha! Kako, batter up? Kako: Kako batter up. Oobi: [chanting] Kako, Kako, Kako, Kako, Ka-- [Kako swings the bat without looking. He thinks he hit the ball, but it stays motionless.] Kako: Ooh. Oobi: Um, Kako? Kako: Hmm? [looks at the ball] Oh. Uh... uh... Kako warming up. Oobi: Oh, ha, yeah. [chants again] Kako, Kako, Kako, Kako, Kako, Kako! Kako, Kako, Kako! [Kako keeps trying to hit the ball, but he misses every time. He gets mad and puts the bat down.] Oobi: Um, uh, Kako again? Kako: No. Tee-ball silly. [Kako takes off his helmet.] Kako: Kako quit. Oobi: Kako quit? [stammering] But--but--but-- Kako: New game. New game. Oobi: New game? But--but tee-ball! [Kako storms off.] Oobi: New game? Scene 2: A new game [Kako sulks into Oobi's room and slams his palm down on the table.] Kako: [sighs] Oobi: [goes up to him] Um, new game? Kako: [looks at Oobi, then looks away from Oobi] Mm. [suddenly, he gets an idea and gasps] Yes. Yes, new game. Um... hand clap. Oobi: Hand clap? Kako: Mm-hmm, hand clap. [Kako "claps" twice on the table, then claps in the air.] Oobi: Oh, hand clap. Kako: Hand clap. Oobi: Uh, ooh, Oobi try. Kako: Good. [They clap on the table. Then, when Kako goes to clap with Oobi, Oobi misses and gets mixed up.] Oobi: Oh, oh. Hand clap hard. Kako: No. Kako teach Oobi. Oobi: Oh. Kako: Watch. [He does the first two claps, and Oobi copies him.] Kako: Good! Now... [He helps Oobi clap with him for the next two claps.] Oobi: Oh, ha-ha! Kako: Hand clap. [They do the full routine again.] Oobi and Kako: [laughing] Kako: Good. Oobi good! Oobi: Oobi hand clap! Kako: Yeah. [to the viewers] Hey. Kako, Oobi hand clap. You hand clap. You, hand clap! [They do the routine a few times through.] Oobi and Kako: Good! Oobi: Hand clap. Kako: Yeah, hand clap fun. Oobi: Yeah. tee-ball fun. Kako: Tee-ball? Oobi: Uh-huh, tee-ball fun. Kako try? Kako: Tee-ball hard. Oobi: Uh, uh-uh. Oobi teach Kako. [Oobi does the hand clap routine again.] Kako: Hm, well. Kako tee-ball try. Oobi: Good, good, ha. Scene 3: Ball... no ball [Uma is upset that she hasn't caught the ball yet. She picks petals off of a flower in the same vein as "He loves me... he loves me not."] Uma: Ball. [picks a petal] No ball. [picks another] Ball. [picks another] No ball. [She spits out one of the petals. The scene fades back to Oobi and Kako.] Scene 4: Kako tries again [Oobi teaches Kako how to focus his eyes on the ball.] Oobi: Oobi watch ball. Careful. Hmm, hmm, hmm. Kako, batter up. Kako: [sighs] Batter up. [Kako takes the bat.] Oobi: Kako. Kako: Hmm? Oobi: Watch ball. Kako: Watch ball. Oobi: Swing. Kako: Watch ball, watch ball, swing. [He swings and misses.] Kako: [sadly] Aww. Oobi: Okay, again. Kako: Watch ball, watch ball, swing. [In slow motion, he swings the bat and hits the ball, just like Oobi. Triumphant orchestral music plays.] Oobi: Ha-ha-ha! Kako: Wow! [Uma is still picking flower petals, sad that she can't catch the ball.] Uma: No ball. Ball. Oobi: [off-screen] Uma, ball! Uma: Oh! [The scene switches to slow-mo again. Uma grabs the ball in mid-air.] Uma: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh! [mumbling excitedly] Scene 5: Uma's turn Oobi and Kako: Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Uma: Uma catch! Uma catch! Oobi: Good, Uma. Uma: Ooh, yay! Oobi, Uma, and Kako: Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Oobi: Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh! Uma, Oobi, Kako "yay!" You "yay!" You, "yay!" Oobi, Uma, Kako, and Voices: [all] Yay! Yay! Yay! Uma: Mm, Uma hit? Oobi: Uma hit. Uma: Ooh! [Oobi gives her a helmet, and Kako gives her the bat.] Kako: Bat. Uma: Mm-hmm. Kako: Uma, watch ball. Uma: Watch ball. Kako: Swing. Uma: Okay. [Uma swings and hits the ball. Grampu is heard walking outside.] Oobi, Uma, and Kako: Ooh, Grampu, Grampu, Grampu, Grampu, Grampu! Grampu: [off-screen] Huh? [Grampu gets hit with the ball.] Grampu: [off-screen] Ooh! [Grampu walks up to the kids. The ball is jammed between his fingers. He spits out the ball, and shakes his head. He gasps when he sees Uma holding the bat.] Grampu: Uma?! [Uma puts down the bat.] Uma: [sadly] Uma. Grampu: Grampu... proud! Uma: Oh! Grampu: Yay! All: Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Scene 6: Interviews Kako: Hey, you play. Girl #1: I love tee-ball because I can throw the ball. Boy #1: [imitates kicking a ball] Girl #2: [playing with a soccer ball] Got it! Kako: You play. Scene 7: Game segment [Kako turns Oobi's helmet. It has a number "3" on the back.] Kako: Oh, number. Oobi: Number? Oobi and Kako: [together] Game! ♪ Game game, game game. Game game, game game. Game! ♪ Oobi: Number game. Uma, Grampu. Uma and Grampu: Hmm? Hmm? Kako: Counting game. Uma: Ooh. Kako: Three. Three. Oobi: Ready? Uma: Yeah. [Uma, Kako, and Grampu hold up different numbers.] Oobi: Where, three? Grampu three? Uma three? Kako three, hmm? Voice #1: [boy] It's Kako. Kako is holding up three fingers. Oobi: Kako three? Hmm, Oobi check. Oobi, you, count Grampu. Oobi and Voices: [all] One, two, three, four. Oobi: Grampu four. Oobi, you, count Uma. Oobi and Voices: [all] One, two. Oobi: Uma two. Oobi, you, count Kako. Oobi and Voices: [all] One, two, three. Oobi: Kako three! Hey, ha-ha. Grampu: Good!
